Hi, my name is Sara, and I started Smartipony. Someone suggested that I write something, just to introduce myself and this website. So here goes… I really do have a group of horse friends that do all of those things in the “about us”. I’ve known most of them for years and they bring different perspectives when I want to know what items we should carry. They are great friends to have, especially when I’m tired of arena work and want a relaxing trail ride. Most of my riding is Hunter/Jumper, in an arena. I own a 8 year old off the track Thoroughbred gelding. Smartipony’s mascot is a cartoon of ‘Eliot’. He’s funny (likes to play tag with me when turned out), inquisitive (always looking for treats), energetic (Thoroghbred!), lazy (he was so slow at the track, they didn’t even race him), mischievous (if I’m not paying attention, he’ll find something to spook at), and a bit stubborn. But I love him when he whinnies as I arrive at the barn.
There is a second horse in my family. She is a 10 year old Percheron/ TB cross. Cute as can be, and VERY round. She showed up when she was 2 and has captured my heart. You know the saying, she IS a mare. Well, she is. This girl knows she is in charge, and has the weight to back it up, if you let her. But one reprimand and she will do anything you ask. She has turned into my 'Schoolmaster' that I can put anyone on. The rider just has to be in charge if they want to get anywhere. I don’t really have a goal with her, just to be able to keep her. When she was 3, she got caught up in cable fencing. The scar wraps twice around her left hind leg and the cable cut into the bone in 2 places. My vet wouldn’t tell me until a year later how close we came to losing her. Something like that does something to your heart.
Just a little history. The name Smartipony came from me years ago. I was signing up for my first email address and a suggestion was smartin3958@... (my maiden name is Martin). I didn't like the numbers so shortened it until it was excepted. soon I was smarti@... I've used that for years and when it came time to name my store, Smarti was the first thing to come to mind. Then the pony was a natural addition for the type of business it is. I hope you enjoy my store as much as I LOVE running it!
